Independent midwife,North East England, Providing Independent antenatal, birth and postnatal midwifery care

ABOUT ME

My name is Debbie Hemmingway and I have been qualified as a midwife since 2010.  I live in the North East with My Husband and family and stepped away from the NHS in 2021 to pursue Independent Midwifery and provide an alternative to the existing care that is offered.

Midwifery is not just a job to me, but a passion, a calling.  I am passionate about delivering holistic, empathetic and compassionate, personalised care to make a difference to a families journey to parenthood. Having the right care and support from the beginning of your journey makes such a difference to your overall experience.

Everybody deserve excellent care and I strive to ensure excellent care is given. Often the care that is wanted and needed is not always available within the NHS model of care due to various constraints.

As a Midwife and Mother (and proud Grandmother!) I have the experience, knowledge and empathy to offer first class evidence based, safe and effective care to you and I will work with you to support you in your choices during pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period.

Since qualifying in 2010, I have worked in a variety of maternity units in the North East of England and spent many years working as a community midwife until more recently, as a private and independent midwife. Working as an NHS community midwife and a private midwife, I was named midwife for a caseload of clients and provided care throughout the pregnancy and postnatal period, often being present at their home births, however I felt unable to provide full autonomous care and choice to my clients by practising in this way.  I felt unable to offer my own independent midwifery clients full care, and birth care was provided through another organisation.

I am now able to provide full independent midwifery care with the availability of full indemnity insurance to enable me to offer birth care and support to my clients, at home or in hospital. This will enable me to provide full continuity of care and form close and trusting relationships with my clients,  which we know has been shown to improve patient care and outcomes.

Practising Independently enables me to have a smaller caseload where I am able to offer more dedicated time to you.

My practice is governed by the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) and I have full membership with the RCN (Royal College of Nurses)  and I am also a member of the RCM (Royal College of Midwives).

Contact me for a chat for more information on care I can offer during your pregnancy and birth and what options and choices you have.
