Pregnancy and choice

Updated: Apr 7, 2022

Newly pregnant?

Wondering where to start on this incredible journey to motherhood?

Firstly, Congratulations! Take a deep breath and don’t worry 😊

You have a choice of the kind of care available to you throughout your pregnancy. You may choose to have care through the NHS or with an Independent Midwife or a combination of both.

From the start of your journey you will be faced with lots of decisions to make; antenatal care, screening tests, your diet, where and how to give birth, what to buy, how to feed your baby and the postnatal period…to name but a few. It can be mind boggling and daunting knowing what to do and where to find this information. You will have information thrown at you from every angle and from all well meaning friends and family. A lot of the information can be conflicting and confusing but there are also lots of reputable sources of information for you to access.

Your pregnancy and birth is your unique journey and midwives will support you through making these decisions that are right for you whilst also providing care for you and your baby to assess well-being.

If you want more info about your options and would like some advice on where to find the latest evidence to help inform your decision then drop me a line.

If you are interested in my services you can find more information on my website or we can have a chat.

I can offer individualised care tailored to your needs from booking until the postnatal period. You will have unhurried regular appointments in the comfort of your home at a convenient time for you with the same midwife throughout. Imagine not having to traipse to the health centre in bad weather, or rushing from work or having to juggle other children to get to a brief appointment on time? I can do all your checks at home over a cuppa and a biscuit whilst we have a good natter 😊 in the warmth and comfort of your familiar surroundings.

Having continuity of care is known to improve satisfaction and outcomes for both mother and baby, knowing and trusting your midwife is essential for your journey. If this sounds appealing to you and if you would like to know more please send me a message 😁
